Acoustic Healing

Children and adults throughout Haiti are exposed to trauma, including natural disasters, family separation due to child slavery, human trafficking, "poverty orphans", and high rates of violent crime and sexual assault. More than half the population of Haiti developed symptoms of PTSD or depression following the devastating 2010 earthquake. Yet the stigma and misunderstandings about mental health continue to keep people suffering in silence. Espere strives to increase awareness and access to mental health services so people learn there is a name for their pain, they are not alone, and they can get better.

Espere Community Counseling Center is committed to improving the mental health and well-being of people throughout Haiti. With recent political turmoil and natural disasters, the Port-au-Prince-based nonprofit has added a satellite office in Les Cayes to extend the reach of services, creating a need for another therapist, as well as travel funds for current therapists. The dedicated mental health team, comprised of local psychologists and mental health workers, offer a wide range of services to address different mental health needs available in Creole, English, or French. These services include individual counseling, support groups, hospital/clinic support, school support, orphanage and children's home support, and even seminars and workshops throughout the community.

There will be few options to donate this year. As usual, we will be selling raffle tickets for gift cards to local businesses and artist merch (must be present to win).
